Headline: Neuratherm Files Patent on Continuous Dissolved-Solids Removal for Industrial Cooling Water

Neuratherm Power Systems has filed a United States provisional patent application covering the Grove Rotary Sorbent Contactor, a continuous treatment device that removes scale-forming dissolved solids from recirculating cooling water.

Evaporative cooling systems concentrate dissolved minerals until scaling threatens the equipment, at which point water must be discharged and replaced. Conventional chemical programs hold those minerals in suspension but remove none of them, so the entire dissolved load still leaves in the blowdown. Grove removes the minerals continuously from a small sidestream, allowing the loop to be operated at substantially higher concentration before any water is discharged.

The filing covers the device architecture, the functional chemistry, and a control method in which a single variable governs both how often the capture surface is regenerated and the shear that keeps that surface clean. The application is held by Shane Solutions LLC and licensed to Neuratherm Power Systems.

Grove is in active development. Bench validation is underway under a residency at Innovation Works in Pittsburgh.

"Water is becoming the constraint on where industrial and computing capacity can be built," said Arthur Shane, founder and CEO. "Reducing what a facility withdraws and what it discharges — and being able to prove the reduction — is worth more than any promise about future capacity."
